It wasn't easy to wake up early after celebrating Oktoberfest wholeheartedly last night, but the sound of bells jingling and bands practicing at 9 a.m. drew us to the hubbub. I don't know if you've seen Big Top Pee Wee, but there is a storm that blows an entire circus to Pee Wee's farm, and I felt a little like that to see a flurry of Bavarians in traditional dress preparing for the parade one street from our apartment. It sounded like this:
Again, crowds tend to be as entertaining as parades. The kid with the pretzel at left and her mom with beer (pre 10 a.m.) were with a group that was shouting yodel sounds at the parade participants which was most entertaining when paraders would make loud yodely sounds back. which was pretty frequent.
I've included pictures of great beards, ladies in dirndls, veggies at their most festive, and traditional arms that look a little like a really pretty peasant revolt.
But didn't you just go to a parade yesterday? Yes, you got me, but this one was totally different. While the goal of yesterday's was the keg tapping, this one was more about showcasing the traditional costumes and weapons of the region. Over 7,000 people are involved in this seven kilometer procession. If you don't do the metric system, this is about four miles.
