I didn't make that title up myself; the little town of Ehrwald in Austria uses it as their slogan, and it was quite apt. The hike starts with this view on one side. We hiked past the little waterfall in the middle there for a hike through the rightmost two peaks.
And our view on the opposite side was the Zugspitze, the tallest mountain in Germany. We were just a stone's throw over the border in Austria.
We wanted to have lunch at Coburger Hütte, but signs indicated that it was a three hour hike there, and we had a 6:00 Fourth of July party that was not to be missed. So we decided to just go really, really fast.
I picked this hike because of the Alpine lakes. I love them. This one is Seebensee, a lake so clear we worried for the fish who had nowhere to hide.
The hike took us up over the lake.
And just over the next ridge was Drachnsee (Dragon Lake) and our Hütte.
