While the beauty of the Bernese Oberland was of the severe and imposing, the area around the city of Gruyeres was sweet and gentle. And everything smelled like cheese. The city gates, the medieval walls, the streets, our hotel, all smelled like Gruyere, the cheese the city gives its name. We were only here for one day, a day spent hiking the scenic Sentier des Fromageries, the cheese factory path, and eating a huge pot of fondue for dinner.
