Fancy Dress

Instead of saying that they're dressed up or in costume, British people say they're in fancy dress. My downstairs neighbor has a whole trunk of fancy dress clothes. She said that she knew her fiance was compatible with her when he revealed that he too owned a whole trunk of said clothing. It isn't really traditional to be in fancy dress for Halloween, but they do it for Guy Fawkes Day which will see a repeat performance of my dirndl next weekend.
As for this Halloween, it was a gorgeous sunny fall day we spent strolling by the Thames where we paused for pictures with the Gherkin,
a book fair under the bridge,
street dance,
and admiring the swirling leaves,
which even made it into some of the stores.
But we later sought out our people to celebrate Halloween. Some of my favorites:
guy wearing his hangman on his back,
facebook guy,
Britain's Got Talent lady here pictured in the bathroom,
fellow dirndl girl who also kind of looks like kickboxing instructor Kathy Garcia, Lady Gaga for Jeremy who loves Poker Face and whose dress is not so fancy, and awesome wrestler and Jane Fonda on left,

and upon leaving Ye Olde Cock Tavern, no kidding, Johnny, Baby, and the watermelon I can only assume she carried.

The facebook guy is great. Nick went as a UPS driver. It was very cute. Molly was a fairy princess with wings. If I were better at this, I'd send pictures. Love your pics though! miss you!

Enjoyed our post. We had a visiter from Edinbourgh here in Munich and he explained Guy Fawlkes to us. So it was timely to read your blog today. Love the Britain's Got Talent costume--clever!
