Mmmm, gelato. One good reason for visiting Rome. It might be a little too cold in February to eat outside, but the lines aren't so long. Also, cappuccino! Julie tells me that this drink takes its name from monks and means "little hoods." Every little hood I had in Italy was coffee and milk in its most delicious combination. And the wine: cheap and good. Wine's best qualities.
But I most looked forward to the cheese at every meal. Italy produces mozzarella from the milk of water buffalo rather than cows. I don't know why the buffalo makes such superior cheese, but it really, really does. I also don't know why Germany doesn't have herds of water buffalo, but I wish they did.
